Ara Tūhono - Pūhoi to Warkworth

The Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway involves the extension of the Northern Motorway (SH1) for 18.5 kilometres, from Johnstones Hill Tunnels to north of Warkworth. The new section of highway will have four lanes.

The project is being delivered as a Public Private Partnership bewteen Waka Kotahi and the Nothern Express Group (NX2).

The project has been delivered as a Public Private Partnership PPP by Waka Kotahi and Northern Express Group (NX2), which includes ACCIONA, Fletcher Building, Higgins Contractors, HRL Morrison and Co, Accident Compensation Corporation and Hōkai Nuku.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2016 Northern Express Group (NX2) was awarded the contract to deliver and finance the project. Design and construct has been subcontracted to an ACCIONA and Fletcher Joint Venture, both of whom are also NX2 equity partners alongside the Accident Compensation Corporation and Public Infrastructure Partners II LP.
Dec 2016 Construction commenced on the project.
Jun 2023 Construction was completed for the project and it opened for public use.
