The Kagaru to Acacia Ridge and Bromelton (K2ARB) section comprises enhancements and commisioning of dual gauge operations along 49 kilometres of the existing Sydney to Brisbane Rail Corridor – that ARTC leases from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) – to enable double stacked trains.
Works will involve:
- lowering five rail under road bridges at Beaudesert Road, Learoyd Road, Johnson Road, Middle Road and Pub Lane
- constructing two new crossing loops at Larapinta (near Forestdaleand) and Kagaru
- extending two crossing loops at Greenbank and Bromelton, and
- links to the Port of Brisbane via the existing rail lines at Acacia Ridge and Bromelton.

| Apr 2021 | The Queensland Office of the Coordinator General announced the project would not be declared a 'coordinated project', meaning an EIS is not required. In a Statement of Reasons the Coordinator-General notes the commitments in a bilateral agreement between the Federal and Queensland Governments on Inland Rail could necessitate further changes to the purpose and scope of the project. Inland Rail was expected to work with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to determine the approvals pathway for the project and identify if additional investigations were required. |
