The Ipswich Motorway Upgrade between Darra and Rocklea is a proposed 7km motorway upgrade from the Centenary Highway Interchange east through Darra and Oxley to the Granard Road Interchange at Rocklea.
The Darra to Rocklea preferred upgrade option is part of the master plan to finish the full 19km upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway, and will tie into already completed upgrades in the western corridor.
Stage 1 of Darra to Rocklea is a 3km section of the Ipswich Motorway from Granard Road, Rocklea to Oxley Road, Oxley. This is the next most critical section of the remaining seven kilometres of the Ipswich Motorway still to be upgraded. In January 2017, Infrastructure Australia added this project to the High Priority Projects List.
Stage 1 includes:
-upgrading the motorway from 4 to 6 lanes
-higher bridges over Oxley Creek, including 7 new bridges
-new southern service road connection from Rocklea industrial precinct to the Oxley commercial and retail areas
-new traffic signals at the Suscatand Street intersection.
The Queensland and Federal governments have committed $200 million each towards Ipswich Motorway Upgrade: Darra to Rocklea - Stage 1 based on a 50:50 funding arrangement.
Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads finalised the business case and funding submission in 2012.
Expressions of Interest for Stage 1 were called in May 2016. A BMD Constructions and John Holland Queensland Joint Venture, and a Bielby, JF Hull and Albem Joint Venture were named as the two consortia short-listed in February 2017.
The contract was awarded to the Bielby, JF Hull and Albem Joint Venture in April 2017.
Service relocation works have commenced on this project and are expected to be completed by April 2017. Major construction is expected to start in 2017 and reach completion in 2020.
