New Tweed Valley Hospital

The NSW Government are building a new Tweed Valley Hospital to replace the existing Tweed Hospital facility. 

The new facility will almost double the capacity of the current facility, helping to service increasing demand for healthcare services in the Tweed-Byron region. 

The services to be provided by the new hospital include: 

  • an emergency department  
  • a range of medical, surgical and mental health services 
  • ambulatory care services and outpatient clinics
  • 12 operating theatres
  • an interventional cardiology service, and
  • a radiotherapy service, part of an integrated cancer care service, including a PET-CT suite.

Aug 2017 Infrastructure NSW estimate the cost of the project at $582 in their NSW Infrastructure Pipeline
Apr 2018 The NSW Government announce the location of the new hospital - on Cudgen Road in Kingscliff, opposite Kingscliff TAFE.
Aug 2018 Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) submitted to the Department of Planning & Environment.
Nov 2018 Demolition and site remediation works contract awarded to Tweed Coast Demolition and Excavations
Dec 2018 Planning and Early Works contract awarded to Lendlease
2019 Concept designs released
Oct 2019 Project plans opened for community consultation
Jun 2020 NSW Government approve final plans through its Planning System Acceleration Program as part of its response to COVID-19.
Nov 2020 The 2020-21 NSW Budget profiled $673 million for the redevelopment of the hospital, including an extra $91 million to extend the scope of the project.
Jan 2021 Mainworks contract awarded to Lendlease
Jun 2021 The 2021-22 NSW Budget allocated $262 million to the project for FY2021-22.
Jun 2022 The FY2022-23 NSW Budget allocated $237 million to the project in FY2022-23. The Budget also identified an increase of $50 million in the project's total estimated cost. The total cost is now $723 million.
Nov 2023 Health Infrastructure NSW announced construction has completed on the Tweed Valley Hospital. The new hospital is set to open to patients in May 2024.
May 2024 Health Infrastructure NSW announced that Tweed Valley Hospital commenced operations.
