The Auckland Northern Corridor project (also known as the Northern Corridor Improvements (NCI) project) will provide a connection from the North Shore to and from the Western Ring Route, as an alternative to travelling on SH1 through the central city. The project includes:
- a new motorway link between the Northern Motorway (SH1) and the Upper Harbour Highway (SH18) including the upgrade of SH18 to full motorway standard between the Albany Highway interchange to SH1
- new lanes on the Northern Motorway between SH18 and Greville Road
- an extension of the existing Northern Busway from Constellation Bus Station further north to Albany Bus Station, and
- a range of local road, cycling and amenity commitments.
Once completed, the dedicated busway will operate through to Albany Bus Station.
