Announced as part of the New Zealand Upgrade Wellington package, the Melling Interchange project will make several improvements to the Melling Link Bridge intersection with State Highway Two on the northern bank of the Hutt River. The Melling Interchange project is part of the broader RiverLink programme which focuses on transport improvements, urban development and flood protection.
The project will include:
- A new overbridge and river bridge connecting Queens Drive
- new Melling Bridge
- relocation of Melling Railway Station, and
- new park and ride
The relocated train station will align with the active transport bridge delivered as part of the RiverLink programme.
