Asset Description

The NSW State owned Forestry Corporation, is the largest manager of commercial native and plantation forests in NSW. It manages over two million hectares of State forests.

Forestry Corporation has two operating divisions, Hardwood Forests Division (HFD) and Softwood Plantation Division (SPD). HFD manages 35,000 hectares of hardwood plantations, SPD manages 200,000 hectares of softwood plantations. Approximately 30,0000 hectares are harvested annually, accounting for 14 per cent of Australia's timber production.

The SPD softwood plantations are primarily pine tree, and located in the central, south and north-west of NSW.

 

Timeline

In August 2019, the NSW State Government announced it would consider privatising the Softwood Plantation Division of the state-owned Forestry Corporation.
