As part of the Big Canberra Battery project, the ACT Government is delivering a 250-megawatt / 500 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) facility in Williamsdale, ACT.
Additional to the delivery of the BESS facility, 14 smaller scale batteries will be delivered to service government sites across Canberra, as well as medium-sized neighbourhood batteries to support battery storage on the distribution network.

Financing
Through a revenue sharing agreement, the ACT will receive a consequential share of the revenue from the battery’s participation in the National Electricity Market (NEM) in exchange for providing Eku Energy with fixed quarterly payments over a 15-year period. The details of this quarterly payment or the ownership status of the battery at the conclusion of the 15-year period has not been made publicly available. |
