Junction Rivers Wind Farm

The Junction Rivers Wind Farm (formally Burrawong Wind Farm), proposed by Windlab Developments, is a 585-megawatt (MW) wind generation facility to be located 15 kilometres south of Balranald.

The scope of the project includes:

  • a 585-MW wind farm comprising 96 wind turbines
  • an 800-megawatt hour battery
  • other ancillary infrastructure required for delivery, and
  • a connection to either Project EnergyConnect’s 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission line or Transgrid’s 220 kV transmission line.

The proposed site is located within NSW's South-West Renewable Energy Zone.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2021 Windlab Developments submitted the scoping report to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and requested the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements for the project.
Dec 2021 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment issued the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project.
Dec 2023 The NSW Government issued a six month extension to the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements, and approved the name change of the project from Burrawong Wind Farm to Junction Rivers Wind Farm.
Dec 2024 The project was selected as part of the Federal Government's first Capacity Investment Scheme Tender Round. The Federal Government will provide revenue underwriting for the project through a Capacity Investment Scheme Agreement. The scope of the project was also reduced from 750 megawatts to 585 megawatts.
