Burrendong Wind Farm

Ark Energy is proposing a 500 megawatt wind farm in Yarrabin, NSW within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. Key components of the project include: 

  • 70 wind turbines, each up to 250 metres tall with an individual expected capacity of six to seven megawatts
  • Internal roads and drainage
  • Up to two substations
  • One O&M compound
  • Medium voltage (33 kilovolt) electrical connections, including overhead and underground transmission cables
  • Up to three permanent meteorological masts with concrete footings
  • Temporary facilities including concrete or asphalt batching plants, rock crushing facilities, materials laydown, and storage, two temporary meteorological masts and a site compound and office.

The project will connect to the National Electricity Market by an existing TransGrid 330 kilovolt transmission line on the western side of Lake Burrendong.

The operational lifespan of the wind farm will be 30 years.

PROJECT HISTORY

May 2022 Ark Energy acquires Epuron Projects and aquires the Burrendong Wind Farm proposal.
Jul 2022 Epuron Projects submitted a scoping report for the project to the NSW State Government and requested the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs)
Sep 2022 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements were issued for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
Nov 2023 The project's Environmental Impact Statement was placed on exhibition, closing 13 December.
