Central West Pumped Hydro

The Central West Pumped Storage Hydro Project is a proposed energy storage facility to be located in Yetholme, between Bathurst and Lithgow in the Central West region of NSW. The proposed site is adjacent to the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone.

The project is expected to have a total output of 325 megawatts, with an eight-hour, 2,600 megawatt-hour storage capacity. The reservoir will be three gigalitres in capacity. Transmission will be via the Transgrid network.

PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2021 ATCO acquired the rights to develop the project from Altura Group.
Jun 2021 The project's proponent submitted a Scoping Report to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and requested the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements.
Jun 2022 The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements were issued for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement of the project.
Nov 2022 The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment issued a supplementary Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement of the project.
