Children's Hospital at Westmead - Stage Two

The Stage Two redevelopment of The Children's Hospital will include building a new Paediatric Services Building and refurbishing existing facilities, including:

  • operating theatres
  • neonatal intensive care unit
  • paediatric intensive care unit
  • cancer services
  • pharmacy department
  • expansion of pathology services
  • mental health inpatient and ambulatory care, and
  • car parking.

PROJECT HISTORY

Mar 2019 In the lead up to the 2019 NSW State Election, the NSW Liberal-National Government committed $619 million to fund Stage Two upgrades to The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
Mar 2019 Project announced by NSW Government in the lead up to the 2019 NSW State Election.
Oct 2020 Health Infrastructure NSW requested the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project to inform the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Nov 2020 SEARs issued by NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE).
Nov 2020 Artist impressions and a fly-through video of the new Paediatric Services Building were unveiled.
Jan 2021 Heritage Impact Assessment conducted by Jacobs Group on behalf of Health Infrastructure NSW.
Mar 2021 EIS completed by Architectus on behalf of the Health Infrastructure NSW.
Apr 2021 EIS and State Significant Development (SSD) application put on Exhibition.
May 2021 Exhibition and submissions close.
Jun 2021 The 2021-22 NSW Budget allocated $49 million to the project for FY2021-22.
Dec 2021 State Significant Development consent was granted for the project by the NSW Government.
May 2022 The NSW Government awarded Roberts Co the contract to construct the Paediatric Services Building. Kane Constructions was awarded the contract build the new multi-storey carpark.
Jun 2022 The 2022-23 NSW Budget allocated $185 million to the project for FY2022-23.
Feb 2023 Main works commenced on the project.
