PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2024 Western Power submitted plans for the Clean Energy Link - North Project to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water and the Environmental Protection Authority for environmental approval.
May 2024 The 2024-25 WA Budget detailed $186 million to be spent by WA Government-owned Western Power to progress the Clean Energy Link North and undertake other early investigative works for potential transmission network augmentations to support the decarbonisation of the SWIS and enable more renewable energy sources to be connected to the network.
Jan 2025 Western Power announced that Genus has been awarded the $270 million contract to design and construct two new 330-kV and 132-kV terminal builds at Regans Ford and Eneabba and an associated line, and augmentation of the existing 330-kV Northern and Eneabba terminals. Works will start in January and be complete in mid-2027.
Jan 2025 Western Power announced that UGL has been awarded the contract to design, supply, install and commission extensions to the existing Neerabup 132kV and 330kV substations. Works will commence in February and take two years to complete.
Mar 2025 The project was included in the Federal Government's inaugural Renewable Energy Priority List. The Priority List aims to provide coordinated support through Federal, state and territory regulatory and environmental approval processes on a case-by-case basis and provide a 'faster to yes, faster to no' approach to regulatory approvals.
