Coppabella Wind Farm

Coppabella Wind Farm, formally known as Yass Valley Wind Farm, is a proposed 275 megawatt, 134 turbine wind farm to be located 35 kilometres west of Yass, in the Yass Valley, New South Wales. 

Key construction components of the project include:

  • construction and operation of a wind farm consisting of up to 134 turbines;
  • installation of turbine infrastructure 
  • installation of generator transformers
  • installation of 33kV, 132kV and 330kV transmission lines consisting of both underground cabling and overhead lines; and
  • construction of up to 3 substations

Construction of the wind farm will be managed by Goldwind Australia.

Other: Coppabella Wind Farm is wholly owned by Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (Goldwind) and the construction and operation of the project will be managed by its subsidiary company Goldwind Australia Pty Ltd.

PROJECT HISTORY

Mar 2016 The project obtained Development Consent from the NSW Planning Assessment Commission to construct up to 79 wind turbines no taller than 150 metres.
Sep 2017 A modification application was submitted to modify the project's Development Consent.
Nov 2018 Referral under the EPBC Act was approved with conditions.
Dec 2018 The NSW Independent Planning Commission approved the modification application to the project's Development Consent for up to 75 wind turbines no taller than 171 metres.
May 2023 The project was awarded a new generation Long-Term Energy Service Agreement by AEMO Services under the inaugural tender round for new generation and long-duration storage electricity infrastructure in New South Wales. The project remains subject to normal planning approval processes.
