Darwin New Correctional Facilities

PROJECT STATUS

Darwin New Correctional Facilities

The Northern Territory Government is planning new large-scale correctional facilities in Darwin, adjacent to the existing Darwin Correctional Precinct, including a men's remand and intake centre and a dedicated women's facility. The project is being delivered over two phases:

  • Stage One is proposed to address immediate capacity expansion requirements including 850 beds in the men's centre and 200 beds in the women's centre.
  • Stage Two proposes to deliver a further 350 beds in the men's centre.

Delivery of the men's facility, under both stages, is proposed to be delivered through a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Maintain model Public Private Partnership with private custodial operations.

The dedicated women’s facility under Stage One will be delivered through a traditional government-led delivery approach, where the NT Government funds design, construction and provides custodial operations.
