Denman Battery Energy Storage System

Denman Battery Energy Storage System is a proposed 2.4-gigawatt (GW) storage facility with a two-hour duration, to be located in Denman, NSW. 

The scope of the works includes:

  • a battery with 2.4 gigawatt / 4.8 gigawatt hour capacity
  • an onsite substation, internal electrical reticulation, and a switchyard to connect to existing transmission infrastructure
  • access roads, and 
  • other ancillary works. 

The project site is located within the Hunter-Central Renewable Energy Zone. However, the project is not proposed to use REZ infrastructure. 

The project has been proposed by M Renewables Australia Developments.

PROJECT HISTORY

Sep 2024 A scoping report and request for the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements were published for the project.
Oct 2024 The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure issued the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements for the project.
Mar 2025 The project was placed on the EPBC Portal and opened for public consultation, closing 21 March.
