The Frankston Hospital Redevelopment will expand the hospital’s capacity, with new facilities including a 12-storey clinical services tower and six-storey clinical services podium, an additional 130 beds and a new operating suite with 15 new operating theatres. The project will also include:
- a new main entrance and hospital street connecting new and existing facilities
- new inpatient units
- a new medial imaging department
- a new five-bed emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub
- a new maternity ward, obstetrics ward, women’s clinic, paediatric ward, and special care nursery
- improved oncology facilities
- a new emergency department paediatric zone
- improved mental health services
- a rooftop helipad to support the transfer of critically ill patients
- a new kitchen and expanded logistics zone, and
- a new multi-storey carpark.

In September 2018, the Victorian Government announced $562 million in funding to redevelop Frankston Hospital. In May 2021, the project received an additional $43 million in funding in the 2021-22 Victorian Budget, increasing the project cost to $605 million. The additional funding was to expand the scope of the project and deliver a new multi-storey car park, a new emergency department paediatric zone, and a five-bed emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub. In May 2022, the Victorian Government allocated an additional $513 million towards the redevelopment in its 2022-23 State Budget, bringing the project’s total estimated cost to $1.1 billion. |

Sep 2020 | The Victorian Government called for Expressions of Interest and confirmed the hospital will be delivered via an Availability Public Private Partnership (PPP). A consortium will be sought for the design, construction, finance and maintenance of the project, as well as a range of building management and soft facilities services. The operational phase of the PPP is 25 years from 2025, during which time Frankston Hospital will continue operating as a public hospital. |
