Garoo Solar Farm

The Garoo Solar Farm is a hybrid solar and battery storage project located approximately 40 kilometres south of Tamworth in New South Wales. The project has been proposed by Bright Path Renewables in collaboration with Jinko Power.

The project is expected to include delivery of:

  • a 134 megawatts Solar Farm
  • a 360 megawatt / 1,440 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system, and
  • enabling infrastructure

PROJECT HISTORY

Jan 2025 A scoping report and request for SEARs was submitted to the NSW Major Projects portal.
Mar 2025 The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure issued SEARs to the project.
Jun 2025 The project was submitted to the EPBC portal for environmental assessment.
Aug 2025 The Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water announced that the project would not require assessment under the EPBC Act.
Jan 2026 An Environmental Impact Statement for the project was submitted to the NSW Major Projects portal.
