Gateway Motorway to Bruce Upgrade (G2BU)

The Gateway Motorway to Bruce Upgrade (G2BU) project is a combination of previously separate projects – the Gateway Motorway, Bracken Ridge to Pine River Upgrade, and the Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Road Upgrade – Stage One. 

The full scope of the G2BU project includes:

  • upgrading the remaining four-lane section of the Gateway Motorway to six lanes and eight lanes between interchange ramps
  • upgrading the Gateway Motorway/Bracken Ridge Road/Deagon Deviation to motorway standard
  • upgrading the motorway curve at Bracken Ridge
  • upgrading the Gateway Motorway/Bruce Highway/Gympie Arterial Road interchange
  • a new Wyampa Road bridge over the Gateway Motorway
  • a new shared active-transport pathway
  • fauna fencing and two fauna underpasses, and
  • noise barriers.

Procurement note:

The project will be delivered through a Design and Construct contract, with the successful tenderer selected through an Early Contractor Involvement process.

Two proponents will be invited to execute a Stage One Contract, including preliminary planning and design work over a 16-week period, prior to the announcement of a successful Stage Two Offer to deliver the project.

PROJECT HISTORY

Dec 2023 The Queensland Government announced the whole Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Road upgrade project's total estimated cost had increased to $1.9 billion, with Stage One a total estimated cost of $948 million.
Jun 2024 The Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2024-25 confirmed Stage One has a total estimated cost of $948 million. The Budget allocated $393 million to the project over the next four years, with $519 million in expected expenditure outside the forward estimates.
Sep 2024 The Queensland Government opened Expressions of Interest for the delivery of the Gateway to Bruce Highway Upgrade (G2BH) project, closing on 8 October. The G2BH Project includes delivery of the Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rock Road Upgrade and Gateway Motorway, Bracken Ridge to Pine River upgrade. The project will be delivered through a Design and Construct contract, with an Early Contractor Involvement process.
Oct 2025 The Queensland Government has awarded a Design and Construct contract to deliver the project, to the Gateway Connect Joint Venture, comprising CPB Contractors, BMD and Georgiou, GHD and BG&E.
