Gawara Baya Wind Farm

Gawara Baya Wind Farm is being developed by Windlab in North Queensland. The project would see the installation of 69 wind turbines, generating a total capacity of 400 megawatts (MW). 

The project is to be located 65 kilometres southwest of Ingham, Queensland. The project was formerly known as the Upper Burdekin Wind Farm.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2021 The Minister determined that the proposed project is a controlled action under the EPBC Act 1999.
Feb 2023 The Public Environment Report for the wind farm was opened for comment, closing 3 April.
Jun 2023 Early works on the project commenced.
Jun 2024 The Federal Government announced the project had been approved for development.
Feb 2025 Symal Infrastructure was awarded the contract to deliver the Balance of Plant works for the project.
Oct 2025 The project was awarded a Capacity Investment Scheme Agreement as part of the Capacity Investment Scheme Tender Round Four.
