Gippsland Dawn Offshore Wind Project

The Gippsland Dawn Offshore Wind Project, is a proposed project with up to 2.1 gigawatts of electricity generation capacity. The project would comprise up to 140 offshore wind turbines on fixed foundations, and four offshore substations. Subsea cables will be used to transport the electricity generated to an onshore landing point.

The proposed site is in the north-western corner of the declared Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone, between 10 and 33 kilometres off the coast between Paradise Beach and Ocean Grange in Gippsland, Victoria.

PROJECT HISTORY

Dec 2021 BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate announce the first three projects developed in Australia, including the project.
Sep 2022 BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate announce the proposed capacity of the project from 1,275 megawatts to 2,085 megawatts.
Jan 2023 The project was declared as a controlled action under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and requires an EIS.
Jul 2024 BlueFloat Energy was granted a feasibility licence for the Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone for the project. The licence allows proponents to undertake feasibility works to progress to a commercial licence.
