The Gnarwarre Battery project is a proposed lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 250 megawatts / 550 megawatt hours, to be located in Gnarwarre, Victoria approximately 20 kilometres west of Geelong.

Funding contributions

The Federal Government provided conditional funding through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), as part of ARENA's Large Scale Battery Storage Funding Round. The exact amount remains undisclosed.

PROJECT HISTORY

2021 Fotowatio Renewable Ventures Australia (FRV) acquired the project from Ace Energy.
Jul 2022 The project was shortlisted to receive funding under ARENA's Large Scale Battery Storage Funding Round.
Dec 2022 FRV was awarded conditional funding from ARENA for the project.
