The proposed Hanworth Battery, located near Bannaby, west of Bowral in NSW, would comprise a 1.2-gigawatt (GW) / 4.8-gigawatt hour (GWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). 

The full scope of works includes:

  • a 1.2-GW / 4.8-GWh BESS
  • onsite switching station
  • overhead transmission lines connecting the project to Transgrid's existing substation, and
  • ancillary infrastructure.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2024 Enervest submitted a Scoping Report to the NSW Government requesting the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project. The Scoping Report set out the proposed project's scope and delivery timeline, comprising a 1.2-GW / 4.8-GWh BESS.
Dec 2024 The NSW Government issued the SEARs for the project.
Feb 2026 Octopus Australia announced it had acquired the project from Enervest.
