Hexham Straight Widening

The Hexham Straight Widening will upgrade six kilometres of the Pacific Highway between the Newcastle Inner City Bypass and the Hexham Bridge.

The project's scope includes:

  • a six-kilometre upgrade of the Pacific Highway between the Newcastle Inner City Bypass and the Hexham Bridge
  • widening from dual carriageway to triple carriageway
  • demolition of the existing Ironbark bridge and construction of two new bridges at Ironbark Creek, and
  • utility relocations.

Funding contributions

The project is being funded as part of the broader M1 Extension to Raymond Terrace project.

PROJECT HISTORY

Mar 2022 TfNSW opened Registrations of Interest for the project to pre-qualified contractors.
Dec 2022 An Alliance of Georgiou, Daracon Contractors, and SMEC was awarded the contract for the delivery of the Hexham Straight Widening Package for the project.
Jul 2023 Major works commenced on the project.
