The High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project involves the construction, operation and maintenance of 70 new 10-car trains to the Sunbury-Dandenong rail corridor through the Melbourne Metro Tunnel.
The project is being delivered as an Availability Public Private Partnership.
The project's full scope includes:
- design, construction and commissioning of 70 new 10-car HCMTs
- design, construction and commissioning of a depot, a light service facility (LSF) and two simulators, and
- maintenance and operation of the HCMTs, train maintenance facility, the LSF, and simulators for a 30-year term.
The propoent will also be required to provide of an option for the purchase of a further 35 HCMTs.
