Westmead Integrated Mental Health Complex

The new Integrated Mental Health Complex in Westmead is a 10-storey specialist facility which will be linked to the Central Acute Services Building at Westmead Hospital and integrate the existing mental health facilities at Cumberland Hospital.

The scope of the project includes:

  • a new 10-storey hospital facility
  • acute mental health beds including beds for youth, adolescents, adults, older persons and people living with eating disorders
  • mental health intensive care and high dependency units
  • a mental health assessment area
  • sub and non-acute mental health beds
  • a link bridge connecting to the existing Central Acute Services Building
  • ambulatory and outpatient services, and
  • education facilities.

PROJECT HISTORY

May 2022 The NSW Government announced $460 million in funding to deliver a new Integrated Mental Health Complex in Westmead.
Sep 2022 Health Infrastructure NSW released new designs for the project.
May 2023 The project's Environmental Impact Statement was placed on exhibition, closing on 21 June.
Nov 2023 The NSW Government released updated procurement and delivery timelines for the project in the 2023-24 State Infrastructure Plan. Procurement for the project is scheduled to commence early 2024, with a contract expected to be awarded by the end of June. Construction is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2024.
Dec 2023 The project received State Significant Development planning approval from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
Jun 2024 The 2024 NSW Budget announced a cost increase of $80 million to the project, bringing the total cost to $540 million, and revised the estimated construction completion date back to 2031.
Nov 2024 The NSW Government awarded the main works contract to deliver the project to Richard Crookes Constructions. The Government announced that construction is expected to commence in early 2025 and be complete in 2027.
