The proposed 500-megawatt (MW) / 1,000-megawatt hour (MWh) Kingswood Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is located approximately six kilometres southeast from Tamworth. The project is expected to be delivered in two stages:
- Stage One: 250 MW / 500 MWh of storage capacity, and
- Stage Two: 250 MW / 500 MWh of storage capacity.
The project is proposed by Iberdrola.

Oct 2023 | Iberdrola submitted a Scoping Report to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, requesting the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). SEARs were subsequently issued for the project in October. |
Jul 2024 | The project's Environmental Impact Statement was placed on public exhibition by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, with consultation closing on 15 August. |
