Kingswood BESS

The proposed 500-megawatt (MW) / 1,000-megawatt hour (MWh) Kingswood Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is located approximately six kilometres southeast from Tamworth. The project is expected to be delivered in two stages:

  • Stage One: 250 MW / 500 MWh of storage capacity, and
  • Stage Two: 250 MW / 500 MWh of storage capacity.

The project is proposed by Iberdrola.

PROJECT HISTORY

Oct 2023 Iberdrola submitted a Scoping Report to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, requesting the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). SEARs were subsequently issued for the project in October.
Jul 2024 The project's Environmental Impact Statement was placed on public exhibition by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, with consultation closing on 15 August.
