Kwinana BESS - Stage Two

The Kwinana BESS Stage Two is a 200-megawatt / 800-megawatt hour grid-scale battery located at the existing Kwinana Power station site. The project is being developed by synergy and forms half of the Kwinana BESS project.

PROJECT HISTORY

Jul 2023 Construction commenced on the project.
Sep 2023 Synergy awarded two contracts worth a combined $1 billion for the delivery of the Kwinana Battery Stage Two (KBST) and Collie Battery Energy Storage System (CBESS). Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. and Power Electronics have been contracted to deliver the 300 megawatt (MW) / 800 megawatt hour (MWh) KBST and 500 MW / 2,000 MWh CBESS. Both proponents will deliver battery components to each project.
Nov 2024 Synergy announced the completion of construction on the project, with operations to commence before the end of the year.
