Leeuwin Offshore Wind Project

Leeuwin Offshore Wind, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Copenhagen Energy, is a proposed a three gigawatt offshore wind farm located approximately 130 kilometres south of Perth between Mandurah and Bunbury in Western Australia. The exact location of the project has not been determined but it will likely fall in the proposed Bunbury Offshore Wind Zone.

The project would include:

  • up to 200 wind turbines with a capacity of 15 to 25 MW, fully located in 700 square kilometres of Commonwealth waters
  • up to six offshore substation platforms in Commonwealth waters
  • undersea, underground and overhead cables, and
  • an onshore substation to be connected into the South West Interconnected System.

PROJECT HISTORY

Mar 2022 Leeuwin Offshore Wind, owned by Copenhagen Energy, announced the project and submitted a proposal to the Federal Government to commence technical feasibility and commercial viability studies.
Jun 2023 WA Government awards the project Lead Agency status.
Feb 2024 The Federal Government proposes an area off Bunbury to be an offshore renewable energy area and consultation opens.
