Limondale Solar Farm and BESS

The Limondale Solar Farm consists of a 249-megawatt solar farm consisting approximately 872,000 panels in Balranald, NSW and commenced operations in 2021. 

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is proposed to be developed beside the existing solar farm with 50-megawatt / 400-megawatt hour capacity. 

The Solar Farm and BESS are located within the South-West REZ.

PROJECT HISTORY

2021 The solar farm commenced commercial operations.
May 2023 The BESS project was awarded a long-duration storage Long-Term Energy Service Agreement by AEMO Services under the inaugural tender round for new generation and long-duration storage electricity infrastructure in New South Wales. The project remains subject to normal planning approval processes.
May 2024 RWE announced it had reached final investment decision to build the BESS component of the project, located next to the Limondale Solar Farm, and announced its expected construction dates, commencing in late-2024 and completing in late-2025.
