M5 Westbound Upgrade

The project involves upgrades to the westbound M5 Motorway between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway. 

The project’s scope includes:

  • a new two-lane bridge over Georges River, and the T2 and T5 railway lines, connecting the M5 Motorway, Moorebank Avenue and Southern Sydney Freight line to the Hume Highway
  • a new underpass at Moorebank Avenue for traffic exiting the M5 Motorway at Hume Highway
  • a new exit east of Moorebank Avenue for the M5 Motorway westbound towards the Hume Highway (the current exit at Moorebank Avenue will be maintained)
  • closure of the existing westbound exit from the M5 Motorway to the Hume Highway between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway
  • widening Moorebank Avenue south of the M5 to accommodate a third through-lane
  • a new shared pedestrian and cycle path along the M5 and across the new bridge, and
  • upgraded traffic lights to accommodate changes.

Jul 2020 Transport for NSW published the Community Consultation Report.
Sep 2022 The project's Review of Environmental Factors (REF) was put on exhibition by TfNSW.
Apr 2024 Registrations of Interest (ROI) were opened.
Oct 2024 Requests for Tender (RFT) were released to shortlisted participants.
Jul 2025 The Design and Construct contract was awarded to Seymour Whyte.
