Mackay Ring Road – Stage Two

Stage Two of the Mackay Ring Road connects the Bruce Highway at Bald Hill Road, Glenella, north-west of Mackay to Harbour Road near the Port of Mackay via an 8.2-kilometre corridor south of the rail line.

The project includes:

  • a bridge over the Port Rail line.
  • a connection from the Mackay Ring Road to the future Mackay Port Access project
  • an intersection upgrade for the Bruce Highway/Bald Hill Road
  • duplication of the Bruce Highway between Mackay Ring Road and Mackay Northern Access, and
  • duplication of Bruce Highway overpasses.

PROJECT HISTORY

Dec 2020 The Federal Government Announced $280 million in funding for the project.
Jun 2021 The Queensland Government announced $70 million in funding for the project in its FY2021-22 Budget.
Aug 2022 NRW Holdings was awarded the main works contract for the project.
Nov 2022 Construction commenced on the project.
Aug 2025 The Federal and Queensland Governments announced the completion of construction on the project.
