Mallee Wind Farm

The Mallee Wind farm is an energy generation and storage project, proposed by Spark Renewables, to be located 16 kilometres north-east of Buronga, NSW, within the South-West Renewable Energy Zone.

The scope of the works includes:

  • installation of approximately 76 wind turbines with a generation capacity of 402 megawatts (MW), and
  • a 100-MW / 200-MWh Battery Energy Storage System.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2022 A Scoping Report was published for the project, alongside a request for the NSW Department of Planning and Environment Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements.
Feb 2023 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements were issued for the project.
Nov 2024 The Environmental Impact Statement for the project was placed on public exhibition, closing on 10 December. Additionally, following consultation, the number of turbines was reduced from 150 to 76, with the total generation capacity reduced from one GW to 402 MW.
