Mariyung Intercity Fleet

The Mariyung Intercity Fleet project will deliver a fleet of 610 carriages to replace the aging V-Line and Oscar intercity fleet. The new fleet will operate on the Sydney to Newcastle, Sydney to Lithgow and Sydney to Kiama lines.

The contract includes:

  • delivery of 610 carriages
  • a new maintenence facility in Kangy Angy, and
  • maintenence over a 15-year period.

Procuring Agency: Transport for NSW
Successful Tenderer: The RailConnect Consortia comprising Hyundai Rotem Company, Mitsubishi Electric, and UGL Rail.
Procurement note:

The fleet has been procured through a supply and maintain contract, with a maintenence period of 15 years.

PROJECT HISTORY

Aug 2014 The NSW Government commenced Expression of Interest for the project.
Nov 2016 TfNSW awarded a $2.3 billion contract for the delivery of the New Intercity Fleet to the RailConnect consortium, comprising Hyundai Rotem, Mitsubishi Electric, and UGL Rail. The contract includes a 15-year maintenance term with an optional five-year extension.
Aug 2023 The NSW Government reached an agreement with the Rail Tram and Bus Union to align the operating model of the Mariyung fleet.
Dec 2024 The first trains commenced operations on the North Coast line, with remaining services on the Blue Mountains and South Coast line to commence in the coming months.
