The Melton Line Upgrade is an upgrade to existing rail infrastructure in West Melbourne. The scope of the project includes enhanced stabling works and improved stations to accomodate nine-car Vlocity Trains.
The project includes:
- a new Melton Station with four platforms with pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, pick-up and drop-off zones, and lifts and stairs to each platform
- new rail bridges over Coburns and Exford Road, and
- new road over rail bridges at Ferris Road and Hoplins Road.
The project scope includes investigation into a new train stabling facility at Cobblebank.

May 2023 | The Victorian Government announced the project in the 2023-24 Budget at a cost of $641 million, but did not commit any general government expenditure for FY2023-24. |
Mar 2024 | Concept designs were released for the new Melton Station. The designs include four platforms, pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, pick-up and drop-off zones, and lifts and stairs to each platform. An air-conditioned waiting room and staffed ticket office will be built and a new multi-bay bus interchange. An updated cost estimate of $650 million was confirmed. |
