Monash Medical Centre Redevelopment

The Victorian Government is funding redevelopment of the Monash Medical Centre. This project will see the construction of a new multi-storey tower to house additional in-patient beds above the emergency department, which was upgraded in 2021. Works will include:

  • a new operating theatre complex, providing capacity for up to 7,500 surgeries per year
  • additional inpatient and intensive care unit beds, and
  • expanded birthing suites and maternity in-patient beds, with capacity for up to 2,400 births per year.

PROJECT HISTORY

May 2023 The 2023-24 Victorian Budget allocated $320 million from the Hospital Infrastructure Delivery Fund to support planning and development activities for investment in seven new, redeveloped and refurbished hospitals across Victoria, including the Monash Medical Centre.
May 2024 The 2024-25 Victorian Budget allocated $498 million for the Monash Medical Centre Redevelopment, in addition to the $37 million previously allocated for planning and design works, bringing the project’s total estimated cost to $535 million. This includes $418 million allocated over the next four years and $13 million allocated in FY2024-25.
