Stage One of the Nepean Hospital Upgrade was announced in 2016. The largest element of the project is a new 14 Story Hospital Tower. The scope of the project includes:
- an expanded emergency department
- over 200 overnight beds
- a minimum of 12 new operating theatres
- 18 birthing suites, and
- a new neonatal intensive care unit
Stage 1 also includes a number of smaller components, including:
- a $26 million multi-storey carpark providing an additional 500 car spaces,
- a community dialysis centre in Katoomba,
- a cancer care centre, due to open shortly, and
- a childcare centre.
