The Victorian Government is planning to build a new hospital in Footscray to service the growing population in Melbourne's inner west.
The new facility will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership, with Western Health as the public operator of clinical services. It will include:
- more than 500 inpatient beds
- acute facilities including an emergency department, mental health and addictions hub
- specialist facilities for cardiovascular, angiographic, operational and other procedures
- clinical support spaces
- car parking, and
- teaching, training and research spaces.
The preferred site for the new hospital will be located at Victoria University Footscray Park campus car park, at 89 Ballarat Road.

The 2017-18 Victorian Budget allocated $65 million to the planning of the new hospital and to carry out urgent works on the existing hospital. The 2018-19 Budget allocated funding to purchase land for the new hospital. |
