New Mount Barker Hospital

The New Mount Barker Hospital will be built on the existing Mount Barker District Soldiers' Memorial Hospital's location.

The scope of the project will incude:

  • increasing inpatient capacity from 34 to 102 beds
  • expanded capacity in specialist maternity beds, paediatric short-stay beds, rehabilitation beds, medical and surgical beds, and palliative care beds
  • new operating theatres and post-surgery recovery beds
  • chemotherapy and renal dialysis services
  • new outpatient, community and allied health facilities, including consulting suites, an allied health gymnasium, and telehealth and in-reach services
  • onsite dispensing pharmacies and pathology laboratories, and
  • a 12-bed mental health unit

PROJECT HISTORY

Jun 2022 The 2022-23 SA Budget allocated $220 million in funding to the project.
Jan 2023 Following the Rapid Site Assessment it was announced that the project will be built on the existing Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital location.
Jan 2023 The South Australian Government announced that enabling works were anticipated to commence at the end of 2023.
Jun 2023 A further $101 million was allocated to the project in the 2023-24 SA Budget, which takes the total funding to $321 million.
Sep 2024 The Government of South Australia awarded the main works contract to Built. The government confirmed the project would be delivered via a Managing Contractor model, with construction completion scheduled for the end of 2027.
Dec 2024 The SA Government announced that enabling works had commenced.
