Stage One of the project will see delivery of:
- two roundabouts along the Driftwauy
- upgrades of The Driftway intersections with Luxford Road and Reynolds Road
- a new bridge
- pavement improvements to 3.8 kilometres of The Driftway
- landscaping and enabling infrastructure

| Nov 2021 | TfNSW released its Review of Environmental Factors for Stage One (The Driftway) for public consultation, which closed on 10 December 2021. |
| Mar 2022 | Transport for NSW prepared a Submissions Report for the Review of Environmental Factors for Stage One of the project. |
| Aug 2022 | Transport for NSW issued a Request for Tender (RFT) for detail design services for Stage One of the project, closing 16 September. |
| Sep 2023 | The NSW Government allocated a further $15 million in the 2023-24 Budget toward flood resilience work on Londonderry Road. |
| Jul 2024 | Transport for NSW updated its Transport Infrastructure Projects Pipeline 2028, confirming a number of key dates for the project. Award of Stage One was updated to Q4 2024, with construction commencing Q1 2025 and reaching completion Q2 2026. |
| Aug 2024 | The NSW Government called for Expressions of Interest for the delivery of Stage One of the project, closing on 30 August 2024. |
| Jul 2025 | Transport for NSW awarded the Stage One construction contract to BMD Constructions. Construction is now expected to be complete by the end of 2026. |
| Jul 2025 | The Federal Government announced the commencement of construction on Stage One of the New Richmond Bridge. |
