North West Treatment Hub

Sydney Water announced plans to connect three water recovery facilities in North West Sydney to deliver the North West Treatment Hub. The full scope of the project includes:

  • construction of a 6.3-kilometre pipeline between Rouse Hill and Riverstone Water Resource Recovery facilities,
  • construction of a 10.2-kilometre pipeline between Castle Hill and Rouse Hill Water Resource Recovery facilities, and
  • upgrades to Castle Hill, Rouse Hill and Riverstone Water Resource Recovery facilities. 

Upgrades to Rouse Hill are being undertaken in stages, with Fulton Hogan delivering the first stages and a John Holland, Stantec and KBR partnership continuing the upgrade.

PROJECT HISTORY

Sep 2021 Sydney Water held an online industry briefing outlining the details of the program.
Jul 2022 Sydney Water released a Review of Environmental Factors for public consultation.
Nov 2022 Abergeldie was selected to deliver the Castle Hill facility upgrades.
Dec 2022 Sydney Water published its Decision Report on the Review of Environmental Factors and recommended Sydney Water proceed with the proposal.
Jan 2023 Fulton Hogan awarded the contract for the initial upgrade of the Rouse Hill Water Resource Recovery Facility.
Jul 2023 Sydney Water prepared an updated environmental assessment on scope changes to the project regarding works around installing a high voltage power cable, changing the location of the high voltage switch room and removing the water from and filling in a lagoon no longer required on site.
May 2024 Sydney Water awarded a John Holland, Stantec, and KPB partnership the primary $595 million contract to upgrade Rouse Hill and Riverstone Water Resource Recovery Facilities. John Holland announced a construction commencement date in late-2024.
