Ørsted has proposed the Ørsted Offshore Australia 1 (Gippsland 01) project, a 2.8 Gigawatt offshore wind farm to be located in the Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone off the coast of Victoria.
The licence for the project applies to an area of 700 square kilometres. The project wil be located 56 - 100 kilometres off the shore off Gippsland.
PROJECT HISTORY
| Dec 2022 | The Federal Government declares a 15,000 square kilometre area off Gippsland, Victoria as an offshore wind area. |
| May 2024 | The Federal Government announces it has granted or offered six feasibility licences to projects for the Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone, including Gippsland 01. The project can now undertake feasibility works to progress to a commercial licence. Ørsted confirms that the project will be commence operations in stages from the early 2030s. |
