The Phoenix Pumped Hydro facility, being developed by ACEN Australia, is a proposed hydroelectric facility located near Wellington, in the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The proposed facility would have a capacity of 800 megawatts / 9,600 megawatt hours of storage capacity.

PROJECT HISTORY

Dec 2022 The NSW Government committed $7 million to the completion of a feasibility study for the project through the Pumped Hydro Recoverable Grants Program.
Jun 2023 ACEN lodged a scoping report for the project and requested the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
Aug 2023 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment issued SEARs for the project.
Apr 2024 ACEN announced geotechnical investigations were underway to inform project design ahead of applying for environmental and other relevant approvals.
