The proposed Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro project would have a five-gigawatt, 24-hour storage capacity and be located in the Pioneer Valley, 70 kilometres west of Mackay.
The project is being developed by the Queensland Government-owned Queensland Hydro.

Jun 2023 | Queensland Hydro awarded the Front-End Engineering and Design contract for the project to the Water2Wire Joint Venture comprising GHD, Mott MacDonald and Stantec. The first geotechnical drilling contract for the project was also awarded to Twin Hills Engineering and Drilling. |
