The proposed Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro project would have a five-gigawatt, 24-hour storage capacity and be located in the Pioneer Valley, 70 kilometres west of Mackay.

|The Queensland Government opened Request for Tenders for a Standing Offer Arrangement for drilling contractors to perform shallow geotechnical drilling for the project, closing 14th April.
|The Queensland Government opened Request for Tenders for the project's Geotechnical Lead, closing 21st April.
|Queensland Hydro awarded the Front-End Engineering and Design contract for the project to the Water2Wire Joint Venture comprising GHD, Mott MacDonald and Stantec. The first geotechnical drilling contract for the project was also awarded to Twin Hills Engineering and Drilling.
|Queensland Hydro has issued a Request for Tender for EIS delivery and strategic advisory services for the Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro and Borumba Pumped Hydro projects.
