RAAF Base Tindal Redevelopment

The RAAF Base Tindal Redevelopment Stage 6 and United States Force Posture Initiative Airfield Works and Associated Infrastructure project comprises two key components: 

  • Component 1 - RAAF Base Tindal Redevleopment Stage 6. This includes providing critical base infrastructure upgrades, particularly engineering services on the base including power, water and sewerage, as well as 108 new live-in units for Australian Defence Force personnel.
  • Component 2 - United States Force Posture Initiatives RAAF Base Tindal Airfield Works and Associated Infrastrucgture. This includes upgrading the airfield including extending the runway, building a new air movements terminal, parking apron and extra fuel storage facilities. 

RAAF Base Tindal is located near Katherine in the Northern Territory.

PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2020 The Federal Government announced the project.
Sep 2020 Construction commenced on the project.
Sep 2023 BMD Constructions was awarded two additional contracts to continue their work on the project. The projects will deliver upgraded runway capacity, enhanced long range surveillance capabilities, and the ability to provide air-to-air refuelling capacity out of Northern Australia.
