Richmond Road is an arterial road linking Richmond and Blacktown in Sydney's north-west. The M7 Motorway to Townson Road section of the project involves:
- widening 2.2 kilometres of Richmond Road between the M7 Motorway and Townson Road, adding an additional lane in each direction
- a new flyover bridge from the M7 Motorway Rooty Hill Road North off-ramp to Richmond Road
- replacing the bridge over Bells Creek, with new separated pedestrian and bike paths and travel lanes
- new staged pedestrian crossings on Richmond Road at Alderton Drive and Townson Road, and
- upgrades to intersections.

May 2024 | The 2024-25 Federal Budget allocated an additional $260 million to the M7 Motorway to Townson Road section. |
Jun 2024 | The NSW Government allocated $316.5 million over 4 years to the project in the 2024-25 State Budget, though a total cost was not confirmed. |
Sep 2024 | Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has commenced a Registration of Interest (ROI) process for a main works contractor to deliver the Richmond Road Upgrade between M7 Motorway and Townson Road. |
Feb 2025 | Infrastructure NSW released updated procurement and delivery timelines for the project. A contract expected to be awarded by the end of the year, with construction scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. |
