In the lead up to the 2019 NSW State Election, the NSW Government committed $750 million to the redevelopment of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The redevelopment will include the refurbishment of existing hospital spaces and a new hospital building, as well as an expanded and enhanced:
- Emergency Department
- Intensive Care Unit
- medical imaging services
- operating theatres
- maternity, birthing and neonatal services, and
- adult impatient accommodation/beds
The redevelopment of RPA will also complement the NSW Government's creation of Tech Central, one of the largest innovation communities in the Southern Hemisphere.

Aug 2022 | Health Infrastructure NSW lodged a Request for the SEARs to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment. |
Aug 2022 | The NSW Department of Planning and Environment issued the Secretary Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project. |
Sep 2022 | The NSW Government released the concept designs for the project. |
Nov 2022 | Barpa Constructions Services was awarded the Enabling Works contract for the project. |
Jan 2023 | Health Infrastructure NSW awarded CPB Contractors the contract to finalise plans for the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment. |
Feb 2023 | The project's Environmental Impact Statement was placed on public exhibition, closing 1st March. |
Feb 2023 | The NSW Government released designs for the RPA Hospital Redevelopment. |
