The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment is the redevelopment of the hopsital including a new 15 storey hospital building; three storey extension to the east of the existing clinical services building; two storey vertical expansion of RPA Building 89; refurbishment works; demolition; temporary helipad; and a new open garden courtyard.
Works will comprise:
- Demolition of:
- Building 94 and the RPA Chapel, and
- the existing helicopter landing site (HLS) and ambulance drop-off canopy.
- Partial façade removal and internal partition demolition.
- Construction of a 15-storey building to the east of building B89, known as the ‘East Wing’, including:
- clinical space for Inpatient Units, Medical Imaging, Delivery, Neonatal and Women’s Health Services
- a rooftop HLS, and
- green roofs at Levels six, nine, 11, and 13.
- Construction of a two-storey vertical extension over B89, known as the ‘Northern Expansion’, including:
- clinical space for an expanded Intensive Care Unit
- rooftop solar panels
- re-cladding of the existing northern façade of B89 to match, and
- a triple-height void with green roof and terrace above.
- Construction of a new landscaped Northern Arrival from B89 fronting Johns Hopkins Drive, providing expanded PU/DO facilities.
- Construction of a three-storey extension to the east of B89, known as the ‘Eastern Extension’, including:
- clinical space for expanded operating theatres, and
- rooftop plant and a green roof.
The project will be delivered in three Stages over five years as follows:
- Construction Phase One (October 2023 to October 2026)
- demolition, tree removal and service diversions
- construction of the new East Wing
- vertical extension to B89. o construction of the temporary HLS, and
- internal building works including new lift installations and construction of a linkway at Level 7.
- Construction Phase Two (November 2023 to February 2026)
- external extension civil and piling, structural and façade, and
- loading dock road lowering and associated service relocations.
- Construction Phase Three (November 2026 to July 2028)
- eastern extension connections into the existing and internal fit-out
- relocation of existing departments
- internal refurbishments (including recovery/perioperative unit, ED, ambulance entry, radiology rooms and cardiac catheter labs (warm shell), and
- site wide landscaping.
