Rutherglen Battery

The Rutherglen Battery is a proposed 400 MW / 1,600 MWh grid-forming battery energy storage system (BESS) located east of Bororen township in the Gladstone Regional Council area, Queensland. The site is located within the Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone and will connect to the National Energy Market via the Gin Gin to Calliope River transmission line.

PROJECT HISTORY

Oct 2025 Development application lodged with Gladstone Regional Council for the project.
Mar 2026 The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water determined the project 'not a controlled action' under the EPBC Act.
