Solar River Energy Project

The Solar River Energy Farm Project is a hybrid solar and battery project located between Burra and Morgan in South Australia.

The solar farm section of the project will have a capacity of 230 megawatts (MW), and the battery will have a capacity of 256 MW / 640 MWh.

The proponent has annuonced it intends to increase the project's storage capacity to eight hours (2,048 MWh), however, this is not currently in the project's scope.

The project is being developed by ZEN Energy.

PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2018 The project received development approvals from the Government of South Australia.
Sep 2024 The project was successfully selected as part of the Capacity Investment Scheme.
Mar 2025 The project was included in the Federal Government's inaugural Renewable Energy Priority List. The Priority List aims to provide coordinated support through Federal, state and territory regulatory and environmental approval processes on a case-by-case basis and provide a 'faster to yes, faster to no' approach to regulatory approvals.
