The Sundown Solar Farm is a proposed 360 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic array to be located approximately 30km east of Inverell, NSW. The scope of the works includes:
- a 360-MW solar farm comprising 660,000 solar panels
- a 150-MW / 600-MWh battery storage system
- a 330-kilovolt on-site substation, and
- other ancillary works for the delivery and maintenance of the project.
PROJECT HISTORY
| Nov 2017 | A scoping report was released for the project alongside a request for the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). |
| Aug 2020 | SEARs were issued for the project. |
| Aug 2022 | The project was referred to the EPBC Portal for Federal environmental approvals. |
| Aug 2022 | Supplementary SEARs were issued for the project. |
| Aug 2022 | The Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water declared that the project constituted a 'controlled action ' and would be assessed under an assessment bilateral agreement with New South Wales. |
| Jul 2023 | The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was placed on public exhibition, closing 3 August. |
| Aug 2026 | The NSW Independent Planning Commission granted development approval to the project. |
